KAYOND developed a custom handling and loading solution for 800–1500 kg spools, combining a spool-only gripping attachment, simulated-load testing and a visible clamping-pressure indication.

Lincoln Electric needed to handle spools weighing between 800 and 1500 kg. Workers had previously pushed the spools manually to the production equipment for loading, creating safety concerns during heavy-load movement and positioning.
A critical requirement was that the attachment must grip only the spool structure without touching the wound wire or cable. Gripping positions and clearance around the wound material were therefore central to the design.
Drawing approval before productionUsing the load dimensions supplied by the customer, KAYOND prepared solution drawings covering the attachment geometry, gripping positions and matching dimensions. The drawings were submitted for customer confirmation before production began.
Testing and Operator ConfidenceFactory testing video still A simulated test load of approximately 1.5 tonnes was used to verify handling functions
Factory testing with a simulated loadAfter production, KAYOND fabricated a simulated test load of approximately 1.5 tonnes based on the customer’s load requirements. Factory tests covered gripping, lifting and movement at a load corresponding to the upper end of the customer’s stated weight range.
Visible clamping pressureThe customer was concerned that operators unfamiliar with the equipment might find it difficult to judge whether the spool was firmly gripped. KAYOND added a pressure regulator and pressure gauge so operators could adjust and read the clamping pressure in real time, providing a visible reference for checks against the specified operating pressure.
The pressure indication supports operator checks; correct gripping positions and the prescribed operating procedure remain necessary.
Project deliveryThe project progressed from dimensional review and drawing approval through custom production, simulated-load testing and operating refinements to successful delivery. The solution provides dedicated handling and loading for heavy spools, reducing reliance on manual pushing while meeting the requirement to keep the attachment clear of the wound material.
